Art is Good for You!

I was having a chat with a friend of mine recently and we ended up discussing art and photography and why people choose to display it. While I have my own opinions on the subject, I thought I would take an opportunity to dig a little deeper and share the main benefits of displaying art in all its guises, including fine art photography with you.

Studies have shown that displaying art, including photographic prints, on the walls of your home, office, or hospitality spaces can offer a lot of benefits, ranging from the aesthetic and functional to the psychological and emotional.

Art and photographic prints allow you to personalise spaces by reflecting your tastes, interests and personality. This personalisation can make a area feel more welcoming and unique. It can also enhance the overall interior design of any space by adding a touch of sophistication and elegance by complementing the décor, colour schemes, and overall style to create a visually appealing environment.

As for functional elements, displaying art can also serve to improve the acoustic quality of a space by dampening sound and reducing echoes in minimalist styled rooms. Not to mention that art can certainly be used as a focal point and a conversation starter which facilitates social interaction and engagement.

The above benefits are what most people would associate with displaying art and photographic prints. But research has also shown that there are a number of emotional and mental health gains.

Art has the power to improve mood by evoking emotions and uplifting spirits. Beautiful and inspiring images can create a positive atmosphere and reduce stress. Art also has the power to improve mental stimulation by provoking thought, sparking creativity, and stimulating intellectual engagement i.e. innovative thinking and problem solving. All of which can be beneficial in a work environment.

There are also therapeutic effects of displaying art. Studies have shown that exposure to art in healthcare settings can aid in recovery, reduce pain perception, and lower the levels of anxiety and depression. Nature themed art in particular has been found to reduce stress and promote relaxation making it ideal for home, office, or hospitality spaces.
