About the photograph - Benbulben Up Close and Personal
If you visit the north of County Sligo or "Yeats Country", you can't miss Ireland's famous table mountain, Benbulben. It is the stuff of legend and dominates the landscape for miles. I've past it many times and promised that I would give it the time it deserved to explore its natural beauty.
As one of Ireland's most famous mountains, there are plenty of images of Benbulben. Most seem to highlight the same table top feature, taken from far away in order to fit it into a photograph. I wanted to see if I could get a different take on Benbulben, so I decided to get up close and personal.
The closer I got the more I noticed the curves and gullies that flowed from the top down the side. I had found my take on Benbulben. All that was left to do was to try and find an angle, a composition that would show the not so flat side of Ireland's table mountain.
It really was a very grey and misty day, not generally considered great for photography, but those weather conditions just seemed to add a nice bit of drama and majesty to the photograph.
I'm really happy with how it came out.
Sligo is a beautiful location and a definite stop along Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way.
