About the photograph - Derryinver Cottage

This photograph taken in Derryinver on the Renvyle Peninsula sums up Connemara in my mind. With its rugged landscape, sea, inlets and islets, and the 12 Bens, it is simply stunning and no surprise to anyone that it is one of my favourite locations in Connemara. I have visited this spot many times over the years, hoping with every trip that the elements that I would like to see in a photograph would align. Whether it be the weather, the light, the farm machinery, the boats out of water for winter or an old van parked outside this cottage for over two years, it always seemed that my luck wasn’t on my side for the photograph that I wanted.
That was until a recent visit. To my delight the van was gone, Diamond Hill and the 12 bens were in view, the windblown tree had yet to bloom and the sun was providing a lovely side lighting to the whole scene. Needless to say I was delighted that I was finally able to capture the photograph that I wanted and headed away with a big smile on my face.
