About the photograph - Inisheer Lighthouse

Inisheer Lighthouse

This photograph was taken while I was exploring the small island of Inisheer, the smallest of the Aran Islands just off the west coast of Ireland. The lighthouse is one of the landmarks on the island and I wanted to get a photograph of it. I was also mesmerised by the sheer scale of dry stone walls on the island, they are everywhere, and had to be included in any photograph of Inisheer. Another subject that I wanted to capture was the famous Cliffs of Moher. The island is only 12 kilometers from the cliffs so I was hoping for good visibility.

I'm happy that I found an angle that managed to include my desired elements and reflect a part of Inisheer in a single photograph.

As one of three stunning Aran islands off the coast of Galway, Inisheer is a popular destination thanks to its unique culture, landscape and range of historic attractions. it is well worth a visit even on a day-trip, with easy access by ferry from both Doolin and Rossaveal.
