About the photograph - Martello Tower Dalkey Island

The area of Dalkey and Killiney in South Dublin is a well known and popular location for both tourists and locals alike. The area has some breathtaking views of Dublin Bay and Dalkey Island. I regularly find myself in the area for a variety of reasons including photography. On this occasion, being such a pleasant evening I wanted to explore it with my drone. There are a lot of wonderful images of Dalkey Island with its famous martello tower landmark, but only really seen in profile from the mainland. So I decided to see if I could capture a different perspective.

Being born, bred, raised and still living in Dublin, Martello towers are a very common sight. There are around 50 of them dotted all along the eastern coastline of Ireland, 29 of which are located around Dublin Bay. As I was flying around Dalkey island, it occurred to me that I had never seen a martello tower from above. So that is what this shot is about. A different perspective on a common sight.
