About the Photography - Canower View

I was exploring the area around Cashel Bay, County Galway in search of a scene that could sum up Connemara. A rugged rocky landscape, windswept trees, dry stone walls, the sea and inlets, the mountains, and where occasionally the sun shines and creates a truly beautiful scene. As Oscar Wilde put it, Connemara is a “savage beauty”.
I found the scene I was looking for near Canower Pier. It was pretty stormy conditions, with gales, showers, and a bit of intermittent sunshine, so I wasn't expecting to shoot, just explore. I wanted to see if this was an area to come back to another day. I parked by the pier and then struggled to get out of the car as the wind was so strong. When I finally managed to get my gear I headed along the narrow country road, I manged to go no further than fifty meters when one of those Connemara rain showers came along. Thankfully I was able to find a little shelter by a house overlooking the bay. Five minutes later, the rain stopped, the sun came out and I was presented with this incredible scene.
Talk about lucky timing, as the low tide exposing the rocks and seaweed and just added to the photograph. In my mind, and I hope yours, it epitomises Connemara.
