About the Photograph - Maghera Strand

Most people head straight to a location or beauty spot. However, I like to start from afar, to try to see it in its entirety, if possible, get a feel for the place and then slowly move closer as details catch my eye. The reason is simple, I find it hard to capture something when I'm smack in the middle of it.
A good example of this in action would be when I visited Loughros Beg Bay, just west of Ardara in Donegal. Standing on Loughros Peninsula you can see a number of landmarks, including Assaranca Waterfall, Maghera Strand, Owenwee Waterfall and Valley, as well as Maghera Caves from the one location.
My goal was to try and include all four landmarks in one photograph. But as I was considering my composition, the evening sun started to cast a wonderful shadow down the Owenwee Valley, drawing my eye to it, and at the same time contrasting with the grass fields in front of me highlighted by lovely golden sunshine. That was the shot!
With or without my camera, the area around Loughros Beg Bay is one of my favourite locations in Donegal.
