About the photograph - Sunset on Muckross Lake

I really like the way this shot turned out, as I was fortunate enough for a lot of elements to come together to make it work, the shadowed forest, the calm water of the lake, Shehy mountain in the background silhouetted by the low setting sun.
On most of my visits to the area the weather is has been very overcast with lots of rain. But this particular trip was during a heatwave (a very rare event in Ireland) with calm warm evenings, clear (ish) skies and warm temperatures making everything pop. I had scouted the area many times and knew a quiet spot on the lake shore where I could to take the sunset shot.
Killaney National Park in County Kerry, Ireland is a beautiful place to visit with a host of locations with stunning views and occasionally some terrific weather.
Muckross Lake itself is one of the three famous Lakes of Killarney, along with Lough Leane and Upper Lake. It is Ireland's deepest lake, reaching a depth of 75 metres in parts.
