About the photograph

I had come across this lovely beach on a previous trip and always thought it would be an ideal location for a sunset. The only thing to plan was the time of year when the sun would be setting over Inishbofin in the distance, and of course cross my fingers regarding the weather. Photographing in Ireland can be more about luck than planning and technique to got the shot!
Fast forward to my next visit, and I was in luck regarding the weather. I just needed to find a spot on the beach that worked for the shot. I moved from spot to spot trying to envisage angles and trying out different compositions that would allow the different elements (moving sun, sea, island, and shore) to work together. The sun was going down pretty fast so time wasn't on my side to choose a composition. In the end I just loved how the curve of the shore (half a heart shape) leads towards Inishbofin in the distance between two skerries. Composition chosen, photograph taken and I'm very happy with how it turned out.
Connemara has many spectacular beaches along its coast line. Ross Beach located at the entrance to Ballynakill Bay in the north west corner of Connemara is a less known, and therefore quieter beach. It has breathtaking views and is a great spot to watch a sunset.
